The IL VECCHIO PIANTONE farm is a small family-run business that was born in the green hills of Ginestreto, in the Municipality of Piegaro. Among the gentle slopes is the centuries-old olive grove, which is made up of olive trees of all ages and seven different varieties: Dolce Agogia, Frantoio, Oliva Ascolana, Trito, Leccino, Moraiolo, Rosciola. Extremely suggestive is the area of the centuries-old olive trees, where there are more than 400-year-old “plants”. The company produces two types of Extra Virgin Olive Oil: a mixed oil with all the varieties present and a monocultivar oil from the mill, for palates who appreciate a more decisive taste. In the shade of the old olive trees, the company grows vegetables, such as chickpeas, lentils, Trasimeno beans and garlic. The vegetables are used for the production of jams and compotes, excellent to accompany cheeses and meats, while a tasty cream is born from the chickpeas, ideal on toasted bread.
On the edge of the forest, beehives color the green hilly landscape. Bees feed on a large number of floral varieties: wild flowers, bean flowers and wild flowers, from which a delicate-tasting wildflower honey is born. A little further downstream, kissed by the sun, is the vineyard from which “Il Livio” is born in two different varieties of red, obtained from Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Montepulciano grapes, and white, produced with Grechetto, Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes.

During the summer it is possible to take part in organized tours in the heart of the “Vecchio Piantone”: during a relaxing walk the varieties of olive trees present, the methods of olive harvesting and the products of the garden are illustrated. The tour is followed by a tasting of the products and bruschetta seasoned with “Vecchio Piantone” oil, all accompanied by a good glass of “Il Livio”.

From the love for the olive tree, the passion for its wood was also born: the waste material that derives from pruning is used to produce various kinds of objects such as cutting boards, coasters, toys for children and even jewelry. The “Vecchio Piantone” was born from love and care for the land, through an organic farming model that allows respect for the life cycles and rhythms of nature. A small universe in the green heart of Italy.
